Pre-production
Molds
What is a
Pre-production mold??
Pre-Production
or limited production injection molds are usually single cavity,
cold runner P-20 steel molds produced very rapidly. They may however,
have some hardened steel components in high wear areas. These molds
tend to share manufacturing techniques from prototype molds and
production molds. These molds
usually are designed to run automatically but may require gate trimming
or other slight post molding operations. The key to pre-production
tooling is speed of construction.
Why build
Pre-Production molds??
Pre-production
tooling is usually single cavity and cold runner. This tooling can
be produced very rapidly and be placed in production while a multi
cavity hard steel tool is still in production/debug. This type of
tooling allows for accelerating product manufacturing schedules
by providing quality parts to begin the assembly process. Although
this approach may not represent the final most cost effective solution
to molding a particular product, the slight decrease in profit margin
is offset by having the product in the marketplace sooner. In addition
should any other design changes need to be done it is much easier
and faster to perform them on a single cavity mold.
Why Choose
Marathon Mold?
Marathon Mold
excels in the construction of Pre-Production
mold tooling. The choice for pre-production tooling at Marathon
Mold is usually a P-20 or hard S-7 steel. We offer the 5 x 8 inch
Master Unit Die (MUD) insert as a standard size mold. We also can
construct a custom mold up to 8 X 12 inches in size. We work with
our customers to identify their needs and provide the right tooling
for the volume and quality required. We employ the same 3-D design
concept on our pre-production molds as our production
molds. Our advanced integration of design and NC software allows
the design and to flow into the NC and manufacturing phase without
the use of detailed blueprints thus saving time and money on your
prototype project. On your next project call the experts on mold
tooling Marathon Mold. |
